Dr. Ben Schultz, Owner
WCVM 2010

Dr. Schultz was born in Yorkton SK, and grew up in the small town of Landmark, MB.  Before attending veterinary college, he studied animal science at the University of Manitoba.  He spent his first year practicing in Stettler, and then founded Maverick Large Animal Veterinary Service in 2012.

Ben is also a founding partner of Momentum Equine Veterinary Specialists in Sherwood Park, AB, as well as a partner at Uncas Veterinary Clinic in Uncas Alberta.  He has a professional interest in cow/calf and small feedlot and backgrounding, and is keenly interested in the economics and sustainability of the beef production industry as a whole.  Ben is particularly interested in the application of new technology to address challenges facing rural veterinarians and their clients.

Dr. Schultz and his wife Jasmin have two lovely daughters, three-and-a-half horses, and a mean looking dog that isn't mean at all.  Ben spends his free time supporting the equestrian endeavors of his wife and daughters, building and repairing fences, welding, tinkering with old cars, and hanging out at Buffalo lake.

She completed 3 years of an undergraduate degree in Animal Health before being accepted into vet school, and graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2021. Having worked at Maverick for 2 years as a summer student, she didn't have to think twice about returning here to work full-time. Molly now lives in the Erskine area, and outside of work enjoys spending time with family, riding horses, hiking and travelling.

Shayna graduated from UCVM in 2025 and was excited to join the Maverick team after spending some time as a student here. Hasse grew up on a dairy farm just north of Falun and is currently living in Erskine area with her husband. She completed 3 years of an animal science degree before being accepted into the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, where she graduated in 2025. Having spent her summers working for beef and dairy producers as well as large animal veterinarians, Hasse has grown to love cattle and the agriculture industry. This led her to join the Maverick team in May 2025. Outside of work she can be found spending time with family, riding horses, working cattle, or doing anything that involves being outdoors.

Robin Schade, RVT & Office Manager

Raised in rural north east Alberta, Robin’s interest in animals started early. She graduated from the Animal Health Technology program at N.A.I.T. in spring of 2007. Robin received the Alberta Association of Animal Health Technologists Graduating AHT of the Year that following fall. Her work as an AHT has led her to be employed with the SPCA, an equine veterinary clinic and a mixed animal clinic before starting with Maverick in 2012. These days Robin divides her time between the 3 assocated clinics; Maverick Large Animal, Uncas Vet Clinic and Momentum Equine. Outside of work she would spend all summer riding, camping and fishing. Robin likes to take at least one destination off her travel bucket list a year as well as taking time off to do some community volunteer work. She currently has three dogs, a bunch of horses and a barn yard of weird poultry and goats.

She took a brief break in 2017 to go back home to be closer to family but after not quite a year we happily welcomed her back. She still enjoys going back to Saskatchewan to help her family with harvest but Alberta has now become her home. She lives on an acreage down by Big Valley with her husband, their dogs and horses.

Haley is the 7th generation to grow up on the family farm, just east of Red Deer. Her love of large animals started at a young age ranching alongside her family. After being encouraged to “get a real job” by her grandpa, Haley went to Olds College where she graduated in 2020 from the Animal Health Technology Program. Her passion for large animals has only deepened throughout her career, which began at a predominantly dairy practice near Gull Lake. She received her Bovine Ultrasound for Pregnancy certification in 2022 and her Bovine Artificial Insemination course in 2019. Haley joined us in February of 2025 and now lives with her husband just outside Alix with their chickens and miniature donkey while her cows are still back at the main farm.
